Analysis of twenty-first century education and life style throughout
the country indicates that many young people are not satisfied with
opportunities available in the country for education and employment.
For a number of reasons there is a growing interest and tendency
to go to another country for training and services. This indicates
a need to provide educational opportunity for youth that is compatible
to education in a number of countries in the West as well as in
Asia.
With
this view, of fulfilling this demand a group of Nepali professionals
and businessmen are committed to develop nursing educational and
employment program in Nepal for South Asian youths (both boys and
girls). The nursing education program is being established under
SANN (Study of Ancient and New Nepal).

SANN institute of Nursing was established in July 2002 as a Private
Educational Organization with a mandate to work towards developing
competent health workers from SAARC countries. In January 2003,
SION initiated Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program in Nepal
in association with Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) USA. This
is a two year program (Four Semester). Three semesters of the program
will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal and the fourth semester in Eastern
Kentucky University, Richmond, Kentucky, USA. Upon the completion
of program, students will take Kentucky’s State Board of Nursing
Exam and will become Registered Nurse (RN) there. With this they
will be able to compete for hospital nursing position globally.
The
goal of SION is to establish a model nursing institute in Asia providing
high quality of training that will be acceptable in any part of
the world. The Primary objective of SION is to provide quality nursing
education and experience to Nepalese as well as youths (both male
and female) from the SAARC region at a reasonable cost.
